"Cool stuff," he says as he casually mentions his latest story in this glossy online game magazine. This time I take on explaining the America's Army game.

America's Army. Article Rant.

I see a problem with this article.
Soldiers are not heroes, no matter what.
Kill a man, you're an assasin. Kill a thousand man, you're a hero. Kill everyone, you are god.
Or more precisely, you are called a god.
I'm son of a soldier, my father fought in the Chaco War in Paraguay, my grandfather fought in the war of the Triple Alliance (where 80% of the population of Paraguay died) and something I've learned from this is that it's enough. My father used to say he was a "professional of death", although he never hated bolivians, he had to. I learned a lot about war with him, and he taught me that the hardest, most glorious war there is, is peacetime.
Soldiers are not heroes, by no means. They are killers and the best of them. Killing people, going to war, joining the Army of North America knowing that only a small fraction of the people in war actually die doesn't save the life of anyone doesn't make you a hero. Maybe a fireman, maybe a police officer, but joining the Army wont make you a hero.
They might be brave, they might be ruthless, they might be patriotic. Those things doesn't make a hero.
Asking for the army to be a dobermann is asking for hitmans. Do your job, for the pay of honour and country, no matter what your job is.
Soldiers are people too, and they shouldn't be glorified or dumbed down. They have a job, right, but it's not a job that should be taken lightly. Their duty is to kill other people and most of the time, YES they are pawns of goverments and individuals. Anyone who says a soldier's duty is different, is probably spreading propaganda, is influenced by propaganda or cannot see the forrest for the trees.
The guys who decide a country is going to war are people too, like you and me, and they doesn't have to know "better" than the regular Pvt Joe. They can and SHOULD question "why are we fighting this war?", because war isn't something to be taken lightly.
And no, fighting because "it's our duty to save freedom" is bullshit. Most of the time, at least.
Costa Rica has no Army.
And most of the countries of the world aren't at war with something every 30 years.
Perhaps thinking soldiers aren't heroes, seeing the reality of war (ridiculization of the enemy, etc) and stop being so romantic about it will help America stop getting in senseless wars.
Aside from that, America's Army is propaganda, good looking one, but no better at the core than "Big Brother is Watching You".

I understand now.. thanks for the aclaration!
I should have paid more attention to the article, tho.
Sorry for the angry post, but for some reason after reading the article I couldn't stop thinking about those things and I had to put them somewhere... Although, I understand now what you meant and it makes sense.
