In an idle moment, I proposed that maybe video games were a medium inappropriate for carrying emotion. Ironically (or sympathetically?) this has generated more conversation than anything else to float through this site.
Of particular note, a reference to a past conversation over at Grand Text Auto and yet another at zang.org has created something resembling a trend!
If somehow you have missed these posts, what are you doing! These sites should be on your daily Web radar. They are on mine.
As for the continuing interest in this subject, and some wonderful comments right here on buzzcut, I have to wonder:
Could a paper be far behind:)

In my personal opinion and experience, Games as a medium are ideally suited for emotional content.
At another time we can have a discussion that referencing Digital art as games and gaming is restricitive in analyzing the medium.
If you meant by your statement that games are inappropriate for conveying the emotions of the author, then I agree with the assertion.
However, games are a 'Hot' media and should receive the emotional content from its players. Many games have been very successful at creating an emotional outlet of their audience. I know of dozens of marriages that resulted from relationships established in Everquest. Time, Attention and Affection are as real in a Virtual World as they are in the Real World.
