Welcome to the first issue of the periodic newsletter from David Thomas and buzzcut.com This newsletter is a summary of new posts on buzzcut, links of interest and other odds and ends related to the world of video games.
buzzcut Featured on MSNBC.com:

The Metacog Kids: I have young kids, so naturally I think about what the world will look like when they grow up. A speech from a cognitive psychologist talking about learning theory connected the dots for me and , ta da! metacog kids! This buzzcut article proposes that video games might be teaching our kids skills that they need to survive in the information age.Read it!
The Other Video Games: Why don't video gambling machines get lumped in with the consideration and study of video games? That's the basic question of this essay. Read it!
Links of Interest
Master of Doom: This book covers the rise and influence of the guys who built an empire out of blood and guts with Doom and Quake. I reviewed the book for the Denver Post. Read it!
Getting Further Away: Picked this one up from Reality Panic, IGDA program director Jason Della Roca's ever entertaining and edifying blog. Two guys test the level of realism in The Getaway by photographing themselves in settings and scenarios from the game. Very cool. I'm surprised that Sony didn't think of doing this as a marketing gimmick. The similarities in the real places and the game are uncanny! See it!
